Nine individuals have died and 2,750 others have been injured due to explosions from Hezbollah pagers throughout Lebanon.

Here’s what we currently know about the pager explosions in Lebanon:

At least nine people have died and 2,750 others have been injured across Lebanon following the simultaneous explosions of communication devices earlier today. Lebanon’s Health Minister, Firas al-Abyad, informed Al Jazeera that one of the deceased is an eight-year-old girl, and he noted that 200 of the injured are in critical condition.

The explosions reportedly occurred in various locations, including Beirut’s southern suburbs, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has stated that many of the affected pagers belonged to its personnel across different units and institutions.

Hezbollah and the Lebanese government have attributed the incident to Israel, labeling it a "criminal aggression," although Israel has not yet responded to these claims. The Lebanese group has vowed to retaliate against the attack.

Since the onset of Israel's war on Gaza in October, Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire along the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Iran denounces the 'terrorist attack' in Lebanon.

Earlier, it was reported that Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, sustained minor injuries from an electronic pager explosion.

In a phone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi fervently condemned the “terrorist attack” and expressed gratitude to Lebanon for promptly offering medical assistance to Amani, according to Iranian state media.

Senior Israeli officials convene following the large-scale attack on Hezbollah devices.

The explosion of thousands of communication devices in Lebanon has significantly weakened Hezbollah’s operational capabilities, according to a former Israeli military commander.

Yiftah Ron-Tal, a major general in reserve in the Israeli army, stated, “This is an opportunity to shift the current dynamics of the conflict with Hezbollah,” as reported by Israel’s Channel 14.

Haaretz newspaper also noted that senior Israeli officials are convening at the defense ministry in Tel Aviv for an “urgent” discussion regarding the potential for a retaliatory attack by Hezbollah.

“The officials have been asked to present options for addressing the escalating security situation with Hezbollah in the north,” the report added.

US asserts it was ‘not involved’ and ‘not aware’ of pager blasts.

The United States has stated that it had no prior knowledge of, nor involvement in, the mass explosions of pagers that targeted the Lebanese militia Hezbollah.

“I can confirm that the US was not involved in this incident and was not aware of it beforehand. We are currently in the process of gathering information,” said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller during a press briefing.

Miller also urged Iran to refrain from actions that could exacerbate tensions following the explosions.

“We call on Iran not to exploit any incident to create further instability and increase tensions in the region,” he added.
