On the day it was announced that his ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez had officially filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Ben Affleck, Rodriguez took to his Instagram Stories to share a cryptic message.
On August 20, he quoted himself, stating, “You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction.”
This post seems particularly significant given that Lopez filed for divorce without an attorney, just weeks after ending her two-year engagement to Rodriguez before reuniting with Affleck in 2021.
Despite their split, the former New York Yankees star has maintained a cordial stance regarding Lopez’s very public relationship with Affleck.
In an October 2022 appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, Rodriguez reflected on his time with the Marry Me star, saying, "With Jennifer, look, it was a good experience, and I wish her and the children—who are smart, beautiful, and wonderful—I wish them the very best."
Lopez has twins, Max and Emme, who are 16 years old, with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Rodriguez shares daughters Natasha, 19, and Ella, 16, with his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis.
In Rodriguez's personal life, he confirmed his relationship with Jac Cordeiro in December 2022. The couple seems to be thriving, having recently enjoyed a romantic yacht vacation with his daughters to celebrate his 49th birthday in July.
Meanwhile, Affleck, 52, and Lopez, 55, eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022 before celebrating their union in a lavish ceremony in Georgia a month later. The "Jenny From the Block" singer filed for divorce on the second anniversary of their second wedding.
While Lopez was filing for divorce at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Affleck was in New Haven, Connecticut, accompanying his daughter Violet Affleck, whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, as she began her freshman year at Yale University. He was later seen arriving back in Los Angeles on the same day.

"When we got back together, I felt very inspired," Lopez shared with E! News in January. "I was like, 'Oh, this is me now.'"
