Drake Hogestyn, star of Days of Our Lives, has passed away at the age of 70, just one day before of his birthday.

 

Actor Drake Hogestyn, beloved for his portrayal of John Black on the soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” has passed away at the age of 70 after bravely battling cancer, his family announced on Saturday. 

In a heartfelt statement shared on the Days of Our Lives Instagram account, the Hogestyn family expressed their sorrow: “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn. He was faced with an immense challenge when diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he confronted it with remarkable strength and determination. After an incredible fight, he left us peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.”

The news of his passing has also been reported by Variety and the Hollywood Reporter.

The family characterized Hogestyn as an “amazing husband, father, papa, and actor,” emphasizing his passion for performing for the “Days of Our Lives” audience and his appreciation for the show's cast, crew, and production team. “We love him, and we will miss him all the Days of Our Lives,” they added.



Hogestyn made his debut on “Days of Our Lives” in 1986 and featured in over 4,200 episodes, according to IMDb. His remarkable work on the show earned him several accolades, including Soap Opera Digest Awards for Hottest Male Star in 1994 and 1995, as well as a win in 2005 for Favorite Couple.
